Transmission Fluid Leaking from Vent

After installing a remanufactured transmission or valve body on transmission fluid may leak from the vent, which may be caused by a worn, oversized pressure regulator valve bore in the valve body. The worn valve body may cause line pressure to leak into the exhausted port just under the transmission vent.

If transmission fluid is evident, inspect the transmission for the following conditions:

• Transmission fluid level overfilled

• Incorrect fluid level indicator

• Water or coolant in the fluid (milky fluid)

• Plugged or damaged vent

• Transmission case porous in the vent area

• Case cover assembly (channel plate) not torque properly

• Case cover assembly gasket installed incorrectly

If the cause of the transmission fluid leak is not found after inspected these items, the valve body should be replaced.
